The Exporting is GREAT campaign was first launched in November 2015 by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) with the aim of encouraging 100,000 British companies to begin exporting by 2020.
The five-year programme is set to provide numerous export opportunities to thousands of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), providing a boost to the UK economy worth a potential £300 million.
As part of the campaign, the second Exporting is GREAT Week is scheduled for the 7th to 11th November 2016, continuing the celebration of UK exporters.
Last year’s conference saw a series of events take place around the country across a single week, with many providing businesses with export finance advice and guidance about some of the financial barriers that could be considered a challenge to potential exporters.
Importers and businesses with export potential were also introduced to credit insurers, insurance brokers, trade support bodies and other sources of government support during the event, which is soon to be repeated on an annual basis over the next five years.
Former Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Francis Maude, said upon launching the campaign that he was confident that it will help to emphasise the benefits of exporting to UK companies, and highlight the demand for UK products and services in multiple overseas markets.
‘‘We are confident that through this campaign, by raising awareness of and providing access to these opportunities, together with giving companies the practical advice and guidance they need, we will inspire and support thousands of new companies in an exciting new venture of selling overseas,’’ Lord Maude added.
Currently, over 1,500 opportunities are on offer, but with 20,000 applications submitted during the previous Exporting is GREAT week, businesses have would do well to keep their eyes peeled for export prospects ahead of this year’s event.
