About Biogen
Biogen offers medications to treat people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and supplies a range of material to help MS patients. The material they require translation services for includes information about the treatment, how to administer the medication, how to track the medication usage, managing side effects and what to look out for during the treatment.
The medical translation challenge & the local review process
Bubbles were tasked by Biogen, through a marketing/branding agency in London, with translating approximately thirty documents into several international languages. The translation output had to be accurate and had to remain faithful to the style of the English copy whilst being easy to read, as many patients have a limited understanding of complex medical jargon.
During the translation process, Biogen team members in the target local countries reviewed the translation to ensure that it matched their preferences in terms of translation accuracy, style, and terminology. The Biogen reviewers were satisfied with the translations Bubbles produced and did not make any changes to the translations.
The medical app & online content project
Biogen was so impressed with Bubbles’ translation quality and service that they asked Bubbles for help with another large project. Biogen had developed an app and online content to provide lifestyle content for people with MS. The content was intended to be informative and educational and included topics such as exercise, motivational thoughts, and well-being mindset as well as medical & and technical content. This was an ongoing project with 2 to 5 pieces of translations every week. Translation accuracy and style of the translation remained critical given that it was aimed at patients and caregivers. Bubbles delivered this project to the satisfaction of the client, meeting the lofty standards that were expected of us.
A specialist translator for every task
An unusual aspect of the Biogen project was that reviewers not only reviewed the translated content for linguistic accuracy and style but also made changes in the target language, at times, to ensure that the translated content adhered to specific regulatory requirements of the target country. Once these changes were identified by Biogen’s in-country regulatory team, Bubbles was tasked with updating the source English content also to reflect these changes. Since this task involved translating into English, Bubbles used a different team of translators for this task as we always use specialist translators to translate into their native language ensuring quality.
Biogen has been satisfied with the delivery of Bubbles translation services on these complex medical translation projects and continues to trust Bubbles processes and teams for support on all translation needs that it has.
