Royal Wedding Invitation: The world is watching

Written by Bubbles Translation Tuesday, 26 April 2011 09:14

I don't know about you, but in the UK we've certainly caught the wedding fever with Prince William and Kate Middleton set to marry on Friday 29th April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in central London.

The Royal Wedding is estimated to attract a TV audience of over 1.5 billion viewers from all around the globe, although it's fair to say that the wedding will be easy to follow, no matter the language.

However, thousands of journalists from different broadcasting stations will descend on the city to cover the event for TV, radio and newspapers, translating the nuptials for eager audiences around the world. In fact, the broadcast is likely to be one of the biggest ever and a huge logistical operation is underway to ensure viewers and listeners around the world are able to watch and listen to the day's events.

Of course we've been following the preparations with anticipated eagerness and here in the office we were all really amused to learn that one UK pizza chain has gone to the effort of translating their menus into 20 different languages. In homage to the one million tourists that the wedding will reportedly attract, Pizza Express will make their menus available in French, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese. And to prove the British still have a sense of humour there will even be menus translated into 'Pirate', 'Geordie' and 'The Queen's English'!

But it's not just tourists that will be making up the numbers. The BBC has, by far, the biggest team working the event, with 550 staff members - 100 more than at the Beijing Olympics

It will be the only broadcaster covering the service inside Westminster Abbey, where it will have some 30 cameras, plus 70 camera positions along the ceremonial route from Buckingham Palace to the abbey and at street parties across the country.

The excitement is certainly building and when the big day arrives we hope you enjoy watching the Royal Wedding, wherever you are in the world.
