A Golden Opportunity

The 27th July 2011 saw the unveiling of the London 2012 Olympic medals, marking exactly one year until the opening ceremony of the Olympics in 2012. The unique and coveted bronze, silver and gold medals have been designed by David Watkins, an established British artist in the field of decorative art. One year from now the world will be watching as athletes from all corners of the globe compete to win one (or many!) of these beautiful treasures.

Like many others across the globe I'm starting to get very excited about this sporting extravaganza…and who can blame me! The Olympics will take place across 17 days in over 32 venues, most of which are located within Greater London, and it's expected that the Olympics will boost Britain's international visitor economy by £2 billion. London will be buzzing with over half a million extra visitors from a variety of countries, all excited to attend the greatest show on earth.

The demand for interpreters and translators, with high standard language skills, will of course be vital during the Olympics. The UK will be shaken out of its comfortable notion that the only language we need to speak to get by is English! The transport, tourism and public services sectors will all have their work cut out during the Olympics, ensuring that all foreign visitors and non-English speakers are able to find their way around the Olympic village to all the sporting venues, as well as London's main tourist attractions.

In the run-up to the event, translators will also be called upon to update official Olympic paraphernalia, sports glossaries and rule books. Let's also not forget the high standard of linguistic support that will be needed during Olympic press conferences, medal ceremonies and live updates, as well as much more, to the millions of people watching the Games.

A massive scale event like this creates an advantage for professional language and translation service providers to highlight the importance of their offering. The overall experience will give linguistic and translation professionals a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to promote the benefit of language and cultural skills, especially when London and all of the UK will be the focus of mass global attention during and after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

With more than 3,500 professional translators worldwide delivering high quality translation services in more than 280 languages, we're well placed to offer an exceptional language translation service that exceeds your expectations. It goes without saying that we will be eagerly waiting to receive your documents in the run-up to the Olympic Games!
